In Support of National Shop for Ireland Day

The Mullingar Chamber of Commerce would like to voice our support for John McEvilly’s initiative, the National Shop for Ireland Day.

This concept invites all Irish people, both at home and abroad, to spend €100 on a non essential Irish made product or service on September 24th. This is for everyone who can afford to do so but we would encourage the public to spend whatever they can afford as every euro will make a difference to Irish businesses.

Mullingar Chamber is calling on all local councillors and politicians to voice their support for the initiative and raise the issue with Westmeath County Council  and both Houses of the Oireachtas.

Pat Whelan, President of the Mullingar Chamber of Commerce said, “We need to encourage the public to take their hard earned savings and invest them in Irish businesses. We would also urge our members and all businesses in Mullingar to come on board with the Shop for Ireland Day and put together packages or special offers for the day to increase trade in Mullingar. This is a great idea and its forward thinking like John’s that is needed to get our economy and country back on track.”
