The Táin is a legendary epic from Irish mythology which recounts the war between Queen Maeve of Connacht; her husband Aillil and theUlsterhero Cu Chulainn over a prize bull: the Donn Cuailgne. Legend holds that the final battle of this story took place not far from the village of Castletown Geogheganin what is now County Westmeath.

The Village Festival is inspired by this tale and the fascinating ancient heritage of this part ofIrelandwhich includes the Hill of Uisneach, residence of the High Kings of Ireland, and the picturesque Lough Ennell, the setting for Jonathan Swift’s Lilliput from Gulliver’s Travels.
