MidlandsIreland.ie, the Midlands Regional Brand is pleased to announce the overall winner
of its recent photography competition. The competition which invited amateur photographers
to “capture the uniqueness and magic of the Midland Region” ran over the summer months.
The standard of entries received was exceptionally high, painting a picture of a bright and vibrant
region with much to offer its population, those who work and study here and visitors alike.
There was a strong focus on particular themes in the entries received, reflecting the innate
strengths of the region that form the basis for many other diverse and important activities.
In order to reflect these strengths and the spirit of the entries submitted, entries received have
been grouped under the Gateway to Tourism and Gateway to Living strapline of the brand.
The entries were shortlisted with the technical expertise of Mr Andy Mason, independent
professional photographer and manager of a Professional School for Photography in Venlo
in The Netherlands.
MidlandsIreland.ie would like to thank those who sponsored the excellent prizes, the
Chambers of the Region, Athlone, Laois, Longford, Midland Gateway, Mullingar and

here for all to see, a vibrant and modern region with an ancient and beautiful natural
landscape, complemented by creative and innovative citizens, living working and learning together”.
The Director of the Midland Regional Authority, Ruth McNally, outlined that all photographs
will form part of an extensive image library used to showcase and promote the Midland region
