Donegal Gathering at Áras an Mhuilinn – Raidio na Gaeltachta Recording – Friday 15th February

What looks like being the mother of all Donegal nights in the midlands is being organized by “Muintir Donegal” for Friday night 15th February at 8 pm in Aras an Mhuilinn, the Midlands Regional Comhaltas Centre.

The Donegal Gathering is endeavoring to bring together Donegal people living in the midlands for a night of traditional music, song and story telling where “Tir conaill men and women” can meet and renew old acquaintances……and there is even talk that the great Sam McGuire might be there to meet his exiled sons and daughters in Westmeath….but this yet to be confirmed according to Finn Gallagher one of the organizers.

Celebrating with the Muintir Donegal on the night will be a group of Donegal singers and musicians who will be traveling from various parts of the old county to entertain and celebrate with “their own” folk in Áras an Mhuilinn.

Raidio na Gaeltachta from Donegal will be on hand throughout the night to record some of the atmosphere for broadcast on the stations networks the following week. Aine Ni Chuireain and Seamus MacGeidigh two of Irelands best known and most respected broadcasters will be heading up the broadcast team and they are anxious to meet and talk with as many of the Donegal personalities and characters living in The Midlands as possible. They will also be recording music and singing with as much Westmeath flavor as possible.

The Donegal Trad night will be gathering in Áras an Mhuilinn at 8. pm on Friday 15th February and the show will be rolling off almost straight away. The night is officially listed as being a night for people with Donegal accents but the organizers are keen to stress that everyone will be welcome.
