Please support your local Parade on our National Day 2013

While St. Patrick’s Day is a day of fun and festivities, it also has a very old traditional, religious and spiritual quality to it. Like that other significant religious festival towards the end of December each year, St. Patrick’s Day allows us just one day in the year to stop and reflect on the things which makes us tick and all that makes up Irish community life – family, friends, Irishness, close personal relationships of all kinds. We’re lucky that for that one day in the year we can forget the “R” word, because in Ireland we are a community of people first and then we’re an economy, not the other way around.

On St. Patrick’s morning around Mullingar you can see many people dressed in their Sunday best, they go to attend their own particular church wearing their sprig of Shamrock on their lapel in anticipation of a day of celebration to come. Put simply, St. Patrick’s Day is just a nice day in each year which generally signals the end of Winter and the start of the Spring/Summer season. Older people will reflect on St. Patrick’s days past. After mass, they may call in to one of the hotels or pubs in the town to enjoy a full Irish breakfast, an Irish coffee or just a cup of tea with friends and shur what could be better?

The Mullingar St. Patrick’s Day Parade is the centre-piece of local celebrations of our National Day. The organising committee encourages local sports clubs, community groups, clubs and societies to take part in the parade free of charge.  For businesses there is a charge of €100 for a parade entry however any donation or sponsorship of the parade either personal or commercial is welcome. In fact these donations are essential to the running of the parade each year.

The work done by all of the parade committee members over the years has grown the Mullingar Parade to the size of event it has now become. It is a unique opportunity each year for businesses to showcase their brands, their products and services, the only annual commercial event of it’s kind in Mullingar town. We are counting on the support of local business to run the event next Sunday. To make a donation or secure sponsorship of the Mullingar Parade drop in to Jennifer at the Mullingar Chamber office on Mount St. (above Jasmine) or email info@mullingarparade.ie. Thanks also to those businesses who have already submitted their sponsorship for 2013. For a full list of sponsors see www.mullingarparade.ie or check us out on Facebook.
