Managing Underperformance – An Employment Law Approach 

Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone 

Wednesday, 18th September 2013 at 6pm

The midlands branch of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) is pleased to announce details of the launch of their programme of events for 2013/2014. This event will take place at Hodson Bay Hotel, Athlone at 6pm sharp on Wednesday September 18th 2013.

This is the first event in an exciting programme of events for 2013/2014 provided by the CIPD Midlands Region Committee. The overriding theme throughout the upcoming programme of events will be “Practical HR”.

This first event to launch this year’s programme will be “Managing Underperformance – An Employment Law Approach”, dealing with underperformance, an issue that faces HR and Management alike. The talk will focus on the Legal and HR approaches, looking at practical solutions to dealing with the phenomenon. It will talk to ideas, suggestions and specific legal requirements in terms of managing underperformance. The speakers will look at the same topic with two different lens but both to achieve practical solutions and outcomes.

 

The speakers on the evening will be Michelle Ní Longáin, Partner, ByrneWallace Solicitors, Catherine Corcoran, Partner, Baker Tilly Ryan Glennon and Tom Ryan, Chairperson, CIPD Midlands Committee.

Michelle Ní Longáin is a Partner in the Employment Law Department of ByrneWallace. She has extensive experience advising both Public and Private Sector clients, primarily employers, on complex areas of employment, equality and administrative law.  Michelle has strong experience advising and representing clients involved in internal and external processes, industrial relations venues, and in the courts. She provides bespoke training to clients on legal HR issues and lectures on employment law in the Law Society’s continuing professional development and diploma programmes.

Catherine Corcoran is HR Consulting Partner with the Baker Tilly Ryan Glennon and sits on the firm’s executive board. She set up the HR consulting division in 2003 and now heads up a specialist led HR & Management Consulting service following the merger with Polaris HR in 2011. Catherine has extensive experience in developing and implementing HR and Organisational Strategy in a way that ensures accountability and outcomes. She advises in organisational structure and management processes and works with key people developing personal/career plans using a combination of coaching and psychometric profiling.

The CIPD Midlands region provides a forum for HR and business leaders in both public and private enterprises to network and share information, skills and best practice in the area of Human Resource Management, Employment Law, Employee and Industrial Relations. The CIPD Midlands region works closely with AIT, FAS, Enterprise Ireland, IDA and other Midlands agencies to support regional initiatives and to promote people development and business performance.
