Get dressed for success this Christmas

shop-window-finalMullingar Chamber has announced a €500 prize fund for the best Christmas window displays/shopfronts in Mullingar.

This competition is open to all the businesses in the town, so whether you are a shop, a hotel, a restaurant, an office or a café- if you decorate it for Christmas you are in the competition and have the opportunity to win a great Mullingar Chamber Shopping Voucher Prize from the €500 prize fund.

“The members of Westmeath County Council are delighted to be the main sponsors of the Christmas Front Competition organised this year by the Chamber of Commerce,” said Dave Hogan, Director of Services,

“This sponsorship and our free parking initiative  in all of the town’s local authority controlled carparks on the three weekends leading up to Christmas represents our commitment and support to the businesses of Mullingar. Westmeath County Council fully supports the “shop local initiative” and urges the public to show their support.”

Pharmacist Eamon Brady, who leads up the Retail committee for the Chamber of Commerce believes “The Christmas Shop Window” is a great way to entice people into Mullingar’s shops, bars, restaurants and other businesses:

“It is great to see Westmeath County council rewarding local businesses for all their hard work. Dressing windows and fronts for Christmas really helps to create a wonderful atmosphere in the town and it is great to see so many businesses in the town making the most of their creative talents,” said Eamon.

“The shop window competition is open to all businesses in Mullingar, not just the shops; the likes of hotels, bars, restaurants, hairdressers, beauticians can all enter. There are three prizes with the best window getting €250 in Mullingar Chamber Shopping vouchers and second and third get €150 and €100 respectively in Mullingar Chamber vouchers. The shop windows will be independently adjudicated and the winners will be announced before Christmas,” said Eamon.

Mullingar is a great example of a market town with lots to offer shoppers, believes Chamber President Pat Whelan.

“There is a wonderful mix of independent and multinational retailers, ample on street parking, massive carparks just off the main streets and lots of places to get something nice to eat and drink.

The town has so much to offer and in spite of difficult economic times, it’s wonderful to see the enthusiasm of local business owners and the pride they are taking not only in their own businesses, but also in their town,”
said Pat.
