Lakeside Wheelers Mullingar set to host the 2014 National Cycling Championships

Mullingar Chamber of Commerce is delighted to announce that Lakeside Wheelers, Mullingar are to host the 2014 National Cycling Championships. The National Championships consist of a series of road races and time trials for elite national and international Irish cyclists. This is Ireland’s most prestigious cycling event with successful professional cyclists such as Daniel Martin, Nicolas Roche, Matt Brammeier and Martyn Irvine all competing against the cream of Ireland’s amateur cyclists including Mullingar’s own Damien Shaw.

The racing kicks off with the Time Trial on the evening of Thursday, June 26th in Rochfortbridge. The 37km course on the old N6 between Kinnegad and Tyrrellspass, starting and finishing in Rochfortbidge. Pro cyclist Nicholas Roche, who finished in the top 10 in the Vuelta A Espana in 2013 has indicated his intention to ride in both Time Trail and Elite Road Race.

On Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th June, the focus of attention turns to the award winning village of Multyfarnham where riders will compete over a rolling and challenging circuit of 19 km for a total distance of 114km. Over 400 racers are expected to visit Mullingar, Rochfortbridge and Multyfarnham together with their families, friends and support teams over the weekend. Lakeside Wheelers and Mullingar Chamber are currently organising a Street Event to greet these visitors to our wonderful town with a well organised race programme and to entertain locals and visitors alike with events, activities and special deals in a festival atmosphere.
