PRESS RELEASE

Good2Talk (G2T) Counselling & Psychotherapy support services will launch a series of free events from Friday 10th October to Sunday 12th October 2014 to coincide with World Mental Health Week.

Speaking at the event launch last week, Good2Talk Director of Services, Pat Gavin said “it is important for us as a local voluntary community mental health service to promote positive mental health. This is a way for us to bring about an awareness of our service and to encourage people in our community to proactively work towards maintaining positive mental health and well-being”.

We begin our events on Friday Morning 10th October with a coffee morning in Buckley’s SuperValu from 10am to 2pm. Join us for a cuppa and a chat (and a cake or 2!).

On Saturday 11th October you will find us on the Market Square, Mullingar from 10am to 5pm, where we will be available to offer support and information in relation to mental health, to members of the public. We will be joined by a number of supporting groups, local American football team, local talented musicians and singers who will help us in creating a carnival type atmosphere while also promoting positive mental health. We wish to kindly ask the support of the people of the community with our annual street collection (that also takes place on this day), which supports our continued work in suicide prevention.

On Sunday 12th October our FREE mental health awareness events continue in the Annebrook House Hotel, Mullingar from 2pm to 5pm. We will be joined by a number of groups and exhibitors presenting ways for you to actively get involved in positive mental health and well-being projects over the winter months. You will have an opportunity to discuss and explore options with the exhibitors on the stands. We are delighted to announce that our guest speaker on the day will be Mr Fionnbar Walsh (as seen on RTE & TV3), author of the book Donal’s Mountain and founder of the Donal Walsh LIVElife Foundation. Fionnbar will talk about how his son inspired a nation with the simple message of ‘live life’.

Following on from the events in the Annebrook House Hotel, you are invited to join us in our ‘Live Life -Let it go’ floating lights ceremony in the Mullingar Town Park. This will be a moment for members of the public to light a floating candle and place it on the pond in a symbolic gesture of letting go of past difficult experiences and present-day concerns.

We are promoting this as a family day, where families can come together and acknowledge losses and concerns. By lighting the floating candle and placing it on the pond we offer you an opportunity to ‘live life and let it go’. We invite all members of the public to join us.

Good2Talk is a voluntary organisation conveniently located between MABS & Mullingar Garda Station.  Since our opening in May 2013, over 420 people have accessed and engaged in one to one Counselling and Psychotherapy in our premises. We have successfully worked with clients from the age of 13 and upwards, with issues ranging from depression, anxiety, bullying, trauma, relationships issues, suicide ideation and more. Good2Talk’s mission is to support members of the community in maintaining positive mental health. We offer effective and accessible counselling and psychotherapy and proactively work towards improving the mental well being of all members within our community.

Please join us in raising some much needed awareness, by showing your support this World Mental Health Week.  And remember, it’s always Good2Talk.
