BREAKING NEWS – It has just been drawn to our attention that the Cannonball will NOT be going through the town as we previously advised originally below due to a “last-minute” change to the route.

However, you can still see the cars at the Mullingar Park Hotel as they are due to stop there for lunch around  1 pm.

Original Post (Below)

On Friday 8th September the three-day Cannonball Ireland starts from the 3 Arena in Dublin at 10am with approximately 200 supercars driving through Ireland and the parade due to finish at Kilkenny Castle on Sunday around 6.30pm.

It’s has grown from strength to strength and it’s now in its ninth year, taking a different route each time. We are fortunate to have the convoy passing through Mullingar this year, at lunchtime on Sunday 10th September. If you really want to get a close look at the cars the best way to do this is to pop up to the Mullingar Park Hotel as they are due to stop there for lunch at 1 pm.

After lunch, the cars will parade through the town. There will be more than colourful vehicles on show, as the Canonballers have a penchant for dressing up! But to really feel the buzz, you really have to be there to witness it.

Mullingar Cannonball IrelandYou can see the routes and the timetables for each of the three days here. If you want to follow the event online you can do so by keeping an eye on their social media accounts: Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Remember the cult The Cannonball Run movie trilogy? With, the hilarious encounters and the over-riding sense of fun that surrounded the whole madcap movies.

Well, that’s the spirit of Cannonball Ireland. The only differences are that the Cannonball event criss-crosses Ireland; it’s not a race but an organised road trip, and it’s decidedly legal and above board!

Although the Cannonball has a carnival atmosphere about it, there is a serious side to it too. Each year, an Irish charity benefits from the event, this year it’s Make-A-Wish.

There is Picnic in the Park on Sunday too, between 11am-5pm, but whatever you end up doing do make time to see the supercars as it may well be a few year until they pass through town again!
