‘Ask for Angela’ Campaign

Ask for Angela Campaign

October is Purple Flag month and Mullingar is celebrating this weekend by going Purple starting with the launch of the ‘Ask for Angela’ campaign on Friday Oct 26th at 4pm, at Canton Caseys / the Market Square.

About Ask for Angela

  • ‘Ask for Angela’ campaign which was launched by Waterford and more recently adopted in Cork and Limerick.
  • This is an innovative campaign enabling those who feel vulnerable in evening and night time economy to use the code words to gain assistance from staff.
  • They will be taken aside, or to a safer location, so they can speak in confidence to that staff member about what assistance they need.
  • Options available to staff include offering to call a taxi for the individual or contacting their friends or family.
  • The scheme is neither gender nor age specific and will be available at participating bars, clubs, restaurants, hotels and evening and night time venues throughout Mullingar.

Mullingar retained the prestigious Purple Flag accreditation for its evening and night-time economy (ENTE) in July 2018. Purple Flag is a town and city centre award which aims to raise the standard and broaden the appeal of town and city centres in the ENTE between the hours of 5pm to 5am. Areas awarded the Purple Flag are recognised for providing a vibrant and diverse mix of dining, entertainment and culture while promoting the safety and well-being of visitors and local residents.

The work to date on Purple Flag is a reflection of the strength of ongoing partnerships and engagement activities with all key stakeholders. We will continue to promote the Purple Flag, using it as a stepping stone in our continuing development of a vibrant evening and night time environment which is safe and well managed.
