Mullingar Chamber of Commerce print half a million worth of vouchers to boost local economy

Mullingar Chamber are relaunching their gift vouchers, which have been in circulation since 2011.

They are being relaunched as the “Mullingar Gift Voucher”.  The Mullingar Chamber gift vouchers have consistently sold EUR200k for the last number of years and they have simply been given a facelift for marketing all year round.

It is the hope of Mullingar Chamber they will be printing more vouchers this time next year and to grow the scheme every year to get to EUR500k over the coming 3 years.

This last year has been an extraordinarily difficult year for many local businesses, especially those who have endured long periods where they have not been allowed trade due to COVID-19 restrictions.

The idea behind the Mullingar Gift Card has been, and always will be, an opportunity for local people and employers to back local businesses, which in turn boosts the local economy and helps sustain local jobs.  Every EUR10 spent locally is worth EUR24 to the local economy.  Never has that message been as important as it is this year.

The Vouchers can be spent in any of the listed shops on the voucher sleeves which have been designed for Mother’ Day, Father’s Day, Birthday’s, Thank You’s, General and Christmas.

There are currently 75 businesses in the Mullingar Gift Vouchers Scheme with more being added every day, ensuring that local businesses and local jobs are supported.  The old Vouchers will still be in circulation and will still be redeemable until their listed expiry dates.

There is a redemption fee of 1.5% and the voucher scheme does not cost anything to set up.  For this 1.5% fee your business is listed on their website as accepting the vouchers, you are promoted on their Social Media Channels, listed on their promotional material that accompanies the vouchers and on their promo posters in The Mullingar Credit Union and at their office at Market House.

Redeeming is easy – Vouchers can be redeemed as often as you wish, every day, every week, every month or even once a year!  You should post your Voucher Redemptions through their letter box with your Company details, an email address and your value of voucher sales.

Mullingar Chamber are reminding people to buy the vouchers even if some businesses are not open at present, as these businesses will be open in the coming weeks and will be ready to accept them.

They are also calling on employers, small or large, across the Mullingar Area to make a direct and positive impact on the economy and recovery of Mullingar and the surrounding areas.  These vouchers are a highly tax efficient way to reward employees.

Help businesses not just to survive but to thrive, by purchasing the Mullingar Gift Voucher for your staff reward or bonus programmes, to improve motivation while encouraging spend in the local area.

Also, please consider rewarding staff at Christmas with the Mullingar Gift Voucher as a tax-free bonus.  Employers can reward employees with up to €500 in Vouchers completely tax-free under the Small Benefits Exemptions Scheme.  Your reward will be exempt from Income Tax, Universal Social Charge (USC) and employee and employers PRSI, saving you and your employees money.  You can register your interest with them today to be reminded close to the time by emailing office@mullingarchamber.ie

Mullingar Chamber wish to thank the sponsors of these vouchers – Flynn Fuels Lough Sheever, Annebrook House Hotel, Buckley’s Supervalu, Wholesome Kitchen, Mullingar Credit Union and The Westmeath Examiner.
