On Wednesday 27th April 2022 the Embassy of the Netherlands in Ireland hosted a reception in the Herbert Park Hotel, Ballsbridge, to mark the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Kings Day. Ambassador Adriaan Palm invited the President of Mullingar Chamber, John Geoghegan to the reception. This followed a meeting held with Mullingar Chamber in Mullingar on 29th October 2021 where several Mullingar businesses with connections with the Netherlands, as well as cultural representatives, with connections there, met the Ambassador.
Commenting on the reception John Geoghegan said “it is lovely to meet with Ambassador Palm again and also to meet his wife and to reconnect and discuss areas where further mutual co-operation may be possible. There are some deep connections with the Netherlands in the midlands, particularly in the area of investment in Irish companies local to the area. One area on the cultural side where I see a big opportunity is to provide cycling linkages along the Greenway where bikes could be used up and down the Greenway a bit like the old Dublin bikes scheme. Ambassador Palm is a very interesting character and a strong promoter of sustainable living and with the climate change agenda moving forward this is also very important. I really enjoyed the hospitality and wish him and his wife all the best on Kings Day.”
