Hazel Smyth is a local Westmeath Councillor and Mayor of the Mullingar Kinnegad Municipal District, as well as being a Senior Legal Counsel at technology company, Momentive. With qualifications in privacy, commercial contracts, employment law and environmental law, she has worked in both international tax and construction companies respectively. She has served on the board of numerous NGOs and actively volunteers with organisations such as ALONE and the Free Legal Aid Clinic.
She is the Chair of the Mullingar Sustainable Energy Community, a representative on the Regional Health Forum and Joint Policing Committee, a Director for the Westmeath Innovation and Enterprise DAC, Chair of the Planning and Transport Strategic Policy Committee within Westmeath County Council (WCC), a board member of the Mullingar Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Columba College board and member of the Road Safety Committee. When not working, Hazel is a fitness enthusiast, avid reader, a big music and sudoku fan, and enjoys spending time with her dogs and socialising with friends.
Hazel leads a women’s employee resource group within Momentive, as well as leading a committee within WCC to increase greater diversity and inclusion within local government and represents Westmeath on the Regional Women’s Caucus.
