Darkness Into Light, the annual fundraising event to help with funding for Pieta house is taking place on Saturday May 6th 2023 at 4.15am from St Loman’s GAA Grounds. The route will take you to Mullingar Town Park (Millmount Rd Entry) and out Austin Friars Exit of Town Park and back to St Loman’s GAA grounds. You are invited to bring a (flameless) candle and take the 4.3km walk/run with the community of Mullingar. Those intending to run the 4.3km should situate themselves at the front of the crowd.
As this year’s walk was late to register it will not be listed as an “official walk” on the website however, you are encouraged to still donate registration fee on their website https://www.darknessintolight.ie/donate and if you wish to, you can purchase merchandise here https://pieta-house.myshopify.com/
Each year the walk provides an opportunity for communities to come together and to bring hope to people who have been impacted by suicide. The walk is organised by Mullingar Chamber of Commerce and Mullingar Tidy Towns and supported by Mullingar Gardai, Westmeath Civil Defence and Mullingar Community First Responders. Buckley’s Supervalu has kindly donated funds to allow us to purchase some additional lights for Mullingar Town Park.
Speaking about the walk Aisling Coleman, manager of Mullingar Chamber of Commerce, stated “We felt it was important that Mullingar held a Darkness into Light Walk in 2023, The Darkness into Light walk is a powerful show of hope and support for anyone contemplating or affected by suicide. We are a new committee this year and we hope to bring something different to this year’s DIL Walk”
They have created a Spotify Playlist. You can find it by searching ‘Darkness into Light Mullingar’ or by clicking here
Participants are asked to tag #DILMULLINGAR in any of their social media posts. If you are in a position to volunteer as a steward, please email Aisling at aisling.coleman@mullingarchamber.ie
