Mullingar Chamber are excited to announce the upcoming launch of the Mullingar Gift Card, set to roll out in time for Mother’s Day this March. This upgraded version of our very popular paper gift voucher brings numerous enhancements that will benefit both local businesses and customers alike.
The Mullingar Gift Card functions much like a prepaid credit card, making transactions seamless and easy. Simply swipe the card on your existing card terminal to process a sale. Additionally, there’s a convenient QR code on the back of the card, allowing customers to check their balance before making a purchase.

How much does it cost?
We are delighted to bring this new initiative to our Mullingar Chamber members with no fees. Non members will be charged a small commission on transactions, to be collected by direct debit on a monthly basis. As the Mullingar Gift Card is like a prepaid Mastercard, card processing fees will be incurred as per your merchant agreement with your bank.

Contact us in the Mullingar Chamber office and a member of our team will visit your premises and register your business. The process takes approx 5 mins to complete – we will fill in the registration form together and then swipe our test card on your POS terminal.
That’s it! You’re ready to accept the new Mullingar Gift Card.
Register your Business Online
If you would like to register online at your own convenience, we have a self registration link (below). Please note that if you have multiple POS terminals with multiple Merchant IDs you will need to complete the form and run the test transaction for each terminal. If you have multiple POS terminals with a single Merchant ID, you only need to complete the form and run the test transaction once.
Note: the test transaction will FAIL or be DECLINED. This is expected and is completely normal. The test transaction is just to pick up your POS on our system.

Do I need to be registered to accept the card?
Yes, merchants must register to accept the card. Our Gift Card operate as closed-loop networks, meaning businesses must be registered in the program before they can accept them. This registration ensures that the Gift Card can only be used at participating businesses in Mullingar, keeping money within the local economy.
You do not need any special equipment to accept the Mullingar Gift Card - your normal POS terminal should work fine.
What are the commission fees and payment terms?
Mullingar Chamber charges 0% commission on gift card transactions for members and 2% for non-members. There are no additional costs to accept the Gift Card—it is processed at the same rate as a standard Mastercard debit card transaction. As it is a Mastercard payment, you will receive the funds from your acquirer in accordance with your Merchant Acquirer Agreement. We recommend that businesses review their agreement with their terminal provider for further details.
Is the gift card chip and pin?
The Mullingar Gift Cards are not chip and pin cards. They can be processed via a swipe, or in the event a card swiper is not available, the information on the back of the card can be keyed into the terminal. No pin is required.
You do not need any special equipment to accept the Mullingar Gift Card - your normal POS terminal should work fine.
What will happen to the current paper vouchers?
The paper Mullingar Vouchers are valid for 5 years so we will still honour them for that term. You may continue to accept the paper vouchers and redeem in the Mullingar Chamber office as normal. We will notify members of the paper voucher scheme before the scheme is retired.
Can the Mullingar Gift Card be used in my online store?
No, currently the Mullingar Gift Card cannot be used for online purchases. The card must be used in your physical store. However, we hope to have this online shopping feature in the near future.
Where can people purchase the Mullingar Gift Card?
The Mullingar Gift Card will be available to purchase from Wednesday 19th March.
The card can be purchased in the Mullingar Chamber office and can also be purchased online.
